7.  BIODIVERSITY CONSERVATION OF NATURAL DYE PLANT (INDIGO) IN PAI FOREST AREA OF INDUS ECO-REGION

This project is being implemented by Goth Sudhar Sangat Haji Keerio with the financial support of Partnership Fund at the vicinity of Pai Forest, Sakrand District Shaheed Benazirabad with the objectives of

(i) promoting livelihood of 200 small Farmers households through conservation and cultivation of Indigo Plant on 05 acre area by conducting 5 Farmers Field Schools,

(ii) promoting and enhancing marketing of indigo plant through its by product (blue dye) which is being used in coloring the handicrafts /Textile and

(iii) making aware and sensitize communities, CBO representatives, Government Officials, electoral representatives on conservation and advantages of Indigo Plant

Key achievements:
Community is well mobilized and their capacity is built in conserving the biodiversity of naturally available species of plants/ trees which are producing dyes useful for Handicrafts and textile industries; the Indigo Plant of Sindh once again is cultivated and the product is marketed; newly formed Farmers Field Schools concept is available and play better role in the promotion of the plant and its marketing and increased vegetation of “Dye Plant” resulted in abundance of natural dye in local market and available to local craftsmen and artisans.
