6. REHABILITATION AND RESTORATION OF INTERNAL IRRIGATION SYSTEM AND HABITAT CONSERVATION OF PAI FOREST

This project is being implemented by the Afforestation Division Forests & Wildlife Department district Shaheed Benazirabad with the financial support of Partnership Fund at Pai Forest with the objectives of

(i) rehabilitating the internal irrigation system of Pai Forest by remodeling & de-silting of the existing water courses,

(ii) developing community network to ensure the smooth supply of water in Forest distributaries,

(iii) protecting and conserving endangered wild species of grey partridge (Pondicerianus) and Hog Deer (Axis porcinus) and

(iv) enhancing awareness & visibility for conservation of forest and Wildlife in Pai Forest

 

Key achievements:
An area of 4,646 acres of Pai forest are improved with forestry trees; vegetation cover increased by virtue of sustainable irrigation supply of the area; irrigation water courses improved and they ensure the proper and optimum requirement of water for better growth of trees and other vegetation and communities living around the forest ultimately get benefit in terms of livelihood improvement as employment opportunities generated during the implementation period.
