Land Cover is an important component of the biosphere that is critical to the continued existence of all terrestrial life. Earth observation satellite system provides the best means of assessing the current state of Land Cover over exhaustive areas and understanding the changes over time.
In this dimension, recent studies include the Time Series Change Analysis of four project sites (Keenjhar Lake -freshwater ecosystem, Keti Bunder - mangrove ecosystem, and Chotiari Reservoir - complex of wetland and desert ecosystem) of Indus for all Programme, compilation of distribution and characterization of Wetlands of Pakistan into National Wetlands Inventory under the Pakistan Wetlands Programme, Land Cover studies of Kirthar National Park, Ayubia National Park, Margallah Hills National Park under Protected Areas Boundary Demarcation Project, and Land Cover mapping of Chitral Gol National Park and Machiara National Park under Protected Areas Management Project (PAMP).
