International Workshop on Green Technologies

 

The term “Green Technology” covers a very wide spectrum, and includes all applications of technology that help serve the overall aim of utilizing natural resources only to the extent that they can replenish themselves. In a broader sense any technology that takes the human society towards “Sustainable Living”. In this perspective an International Workshop on Green Technologies was organised by World Wide Fund For Nature Pakistan (WWF-P) and OIC Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (COMSTECH) from June 28th – 30th, 2011 at COMSTEC Building, Islamabad, Pakistan.
Renowned international scholars are from Morocco, Iran and Egypt whereas national resource persons are from various research and policy institutes, environmental organisations, national universities and green technology entrepreneurs. Main topics covered in the workshop included Conserving Natural Resources through Green Technologies Promotion at Grassroots Levels, Green Technology Strategy in Pakistan in the Context of Climate Change, Encouraging Green Technologies, Cleaner Production as Economical Tool for Sustainable Development, WHR power generation project for Industry and Clean Development Mechanism, Role of Pakistan Science Foundation in supporting Green Technologies.
At the end closing remarks were given by Dr. Anwar Nasim from COMSTECH and showed gratitude to the participants, resource persons and the organisers for making such a successful workshop. Finally the certificates were distributed among the participants and the resource persons by Dr. Ghulam Akbar, National Programme Manager, WWF-Pakistan Wetlands Programme and Dr. Manzoor Ahmad Soomro, Chairman, Pakistan Science Foundation.
