Karachi, The fifth Annual Review and Networking Meeting of Indus for All Programme being implemented by the World Wide Fund for Nature Pakistan was held here at local hotel. The meeting was attended by a large number of organizations, including heads and representatives of government departments, civil society organizations, corporate sector, media and researchers.
Speaking at the occasion, Sindh Secretary Information & Archive Department Mumtaz Ali Shah stressed the need of creating awareness among masses to tackle increasing challenges of environmental degradation. He said that media can play vital role in educating the masses in this regard. He said that rich forests and wetlands have remained identity of Sindh and called for collective efforts to protect the natural treasure of Sindh.
Former Additional Chief Secretary Planning & Development, Ghulam Sarwar Khero hoped that WWF with support of key stakeholders would give priority to new four sites including Manchar Lake, Khebrani Forest, Kharo Chan and Nara region. He highlighted the need for handing over to Government of Sindh the replication of successes in socio-economic empowerment as well as biodiversity conservation in the existing four sites.

Director WWF Rab Nawaz committed on continued support to partners at the four sites and expressed hope in continuation of interventions through building partnerships. Water security and stewardship was identified as the new focus, along with market transformation, policy work and involving community champions in conservation, he added.
While highlighting the major achievements of the Programme, Nasir Ali Panhwar, Programme Coordinator, Indus for All Programme, WWF stressed on the unique nature of the Programme in terms of establishing diverse level of participation and an integrated approach to conservation. He said that the Programme aimed to demonstrate participatory natural resource management practices to alleviate poverty and conserve biodiversity in the four priority sites including Keti Bunder, Keenjhar Lake, Chotiari Reservoir and Pai forest. He mentioned that number of milestones have been attained in the areas of natural resource management, livelihood development, policy and capacity building in Indus Ecoregion conservation.
Partner representatives from relevant government agencies, Community Based Organizations and civil society organizations gave their perspective on the Programme. Dr. Suleman Shaikh, Fazal Nizamani, Senior Chief Planning & Development Department, Dr. Fehmida Firdous, Deputy Conservator, Sindh Wildlife Department, Riaz Wagan, Conservator Forest, community representatives Irshad Ali Gandhro, Majeed Mangrio, Ameen Keerio and others spoke at the occasion.
Green Journalists award were giving away to Aajiz Jamali, Amar Leghari, Aziz Ranjhani, Badar Abro, G. N Mughal, Gulshan Shaikh, Haris Tayab, Khalil Jibran, Latif Baloch, Mujahid Shah, Mehmood Aalam, Mumtaz Shar, Mehboob Brohi, Manzoor Solangi, Nawaz Kunbhar, Rizwan Tariq, Ramzan Chandio, Rasool Bux Dars, Sanaullah Khokhar, Shabina Faraz, S. Khursheed Ali, Waqar Bhatti, Zofeen Ebrahim, Zulfiqar Rajpar, and Zia Qureshi. Shields were also distributed among staff.
