Indus Ecoregion Steering Committee Meeting

Karachi : The 5th meeting of the Indus Ecoregion Steering Committee was held on 05.12.2008 under the chairmanship of the Additional Chief Secretary (Dev)/Secretary Planning, Planning & Development [P&D] Department, Government of Sindh at WWF-Pakistan’s Wetland Centre, Sandspit Karachi. The meeting was well attended by senior officials from the Government of Sindh, civil society organisations including Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum, Shirkat Gah and IUCN, in addition to members of WWF-Pakistan’s Indus for All Programme team. Following were the major decisions taken during the meeting:
 The Government departments have so many funds at their disposal, therefore, the Partnership Fund should only be open to CSOs and Academia to advance the objectives of the Programme;
 Chief Agriculture will write a letter to Secretary Irrigation for ensuring the release of allocated water to Pai Forest;
 Forest department will review the existing forest laws and suggest changes if required in consultation with WWF Pakistan
 Annual Work Plan 2009 and major revision of the overall programme activities approved.
