Kharo Chhan


Kharo Chan lies along Sindh province’s coastline of approximately 350km, a significant part of which comprises the Delta of the River Indus. Kharo Chan covers an areas of 778 sq. km. Kharo Chan’s taluka (tehsil) – also known as a union council – is headquartered at Baghan.

Kharo Chan has 1 union council, 41 revenue villages and 4385 households (Government of Sindh, 2011). Natural resource pressures have also resulted from insufficient water flow downstream Kotri. At least 117,823 ha of land was lost due to sea erosion, of which 81% fell in the category of ‘totally eroded by the sea’ covering 21 dehs (cluster of villages) out of a total of 41 dehs in Kharo Chan (Government of Sindh, 2004).
